What items do you not accept?
We no longer accept furniture or big appliances. Additionally, adult clothing can only be accepted as part of a seasonal program. Please call ahead to confirm acceptance. If donated when a seasonal program is not taking place, please place adult clothing in the community aid bins outside our building.
Can I donate perishable items or food?
No, Join Hands Ministry does not accept perishable items or food donations. We suggest that food donations be given to Neighbor Helping Neighbor. However, we do accept donations of Pediasure, Ensure, and other nutritional supplement drinks, as well as dry formula. Please call to confirm acceptance before donating.
Do you accept electronics for donation?
We accept countertop electronic kitchen appliances and flat screen televisions. We cannot accept any other form on electronic donation.
If you are unsure that your electronic item meets our needs, please feel free to contact us to verify before you drop the item(s) off.
How can I schedule a large donation drop off?
Due to limited storage space, the only large donations we can accept are brand new toiletry items. If your large donation meets this criteria, you can contact our staff at (717) 582-7844 to schedule the best time for delivery.
Do you provide donation receipts for tax purposes?
Yes. Please ask for a receipt at the time of your donation and have the value of the donation available for our staff to properly complete receipt.
What happens to donated items that cannot be used?
Depends on the item – If we can donate to another local organization who can use it, we do. If someone donates an item that is broken or damaged, we have to absorb the cost of throwing those items away and we pay for our trash service
Can I donate opened or partially used items?
Depends on the item – Open liquid or powder products cannot be accepted. Diapers that can be taped or bagged can be accepted. If you are unsure that your donation meets this criteria, please contact our office to verify before delivering the donation.
Are there specific items that are currently in high demand?
We have a monthly toiletry program that has grown significantly in the last several years creating the need for toiletry items on a regular basis. Some items that are typically requested include but are not limited to: deodorant, body wash, diapers (sizes 2-6), shampoo, conditioner, paper towels, and toilet paper. Because each month brings different needs, we encourage you to contact our office to determine what toiletry items are in high demand at the time.
Can I make a monetary donation instead of donating physical items?
Yes, absolutely! You can put in the memo line of your check where you want your donation to be applied (i.e. – toiletry program, HELP program, Youth Assistance Program, general operations).
Do you accept donations from other businesses or organizations?
Yes. We accept and appreciate donations from all sources.
